Campus-Wide Employment Opportunities

Title: Summer Camp Administrative Assistant
Hours of Work
Summer Camp Administrative Assistants work during the Spring Semester for an agreed upon number of hours per week and continue work during the summer camps.
Job Description
Day-to-day office assistance including, but is not limited to, coordinating drop-offs and pick-ups of campers, conducting payment processes, preparing paper work for camp attendance, updating camp database, assisting with marketing efforts, and over all team work with camp staff.

Title: Athletic Trainer
Athletic Trainers are responsible for providing first-aid and related treatment for minor injuries during the operation of several summer camps. Trainers will maintain camper medical forms and information. They will work with school-age children under the guidance of various Camp Directors, Residential Directors and Director of Summer Camps. BLS/CPR and advanced first aid is required. On campus housing and meals are available. The position start and end dates are to be determined.

Title: Lifeguard
Ensures the safety of campers at the outdoor swimming pool by preventing and responding to emergencies.

Title: Camp Liaison
Hours of Work
Pre Camp hours vary depending upon duties and position, beginning one week prior to start of camp. During camp, hours are seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Requests for time off may be directed towards the Director of Summer Camps.
Job Description
Camp Liaisons report to Residential Directors and Director of Summer Camps. Camp Liaisons are the front line and direct link to the campers. Camp Liaisons are directly responsible for the supervision of their assigned hall or floor. Camp Liaisons are also the primary link between the campers and the Camp Directors.

Title: Residential Director
Hours of Work
Pre Camp hours vary depending upon meetings and orientation, but will not exceed ten hours total. During camp, hours are seven days a week, 24 hours a day for one to six weeks, depending on arrangements made with Director of Summer Camps. Requests for time off may be directed towards the Director of Summer Camps.
Job Description
The Residential Director acts as the liaison between SSES and the summer camps, reporting to the Director of Summer Camps. He or she acts as supervisor to all Summer Camps staff.

Title: Camp Director
Essential duties may include but are not limited to: plan, organize, and coordinate specific camp programming; assist in general supervision of campers; direct supervision of specialists and counselors; implement program curriculum and facilitate program policies, regulations, and safety concerns; attend to injuries and illnesses; assist parents with inquiries regarding program; assist with staff training; assist in directing program activities to support budgetary and staffing concerns; help to maintain facilities as they relate to campers and camp activities; and any additional duties as expected.

The following jobs are hired by each Camp Director. Some employees might be hired to accomplish part of two or more jobs. For example, an assistant coach may also be a counselor.

Title: Counselor

Dependent upon needs of Camp Director
Job Description
To be responsible for the health, safety, and general welfare of campers while being an appropriate role model and pursuing the camp’s general goals. Responsible for the safety of the enrolled campers at all times during the camp day and extended camp. Must be able to maintain all necessary camp equipment and supplies, as well as maintaining a clean camp environment both indoors and outdoors. Responsible for implementing games and activities depending on the needs of the camp. May also serve as a coach or assistant coach.

Title: Coach and Assistant Coach
Hours of Work
Work hours are based on the needs or requirements set forth by the Camp Director.
Job Description
Responsible for physical education activities relating to a specific sport and supervising camp participants during all camp activities. May be responsible for leading skills, drills, breakout sessions or games.

Texas Arts Project Employment Opportunities

Instructor (various positions)

Title: Instructor
Job Location: St. Stephen’s Episcopal School
Hours of Work: Varies, dependent upon number of classes. Will include outside preparation. Arrive at least 10 minutes prior to start of class and be prepared.

Job Duties
  • Instruct classes with a clear objective and a positive attitude.
  • Prepare and organize syllabus and class goals. Maintain class roll if applicable.
    Comply with and enforce all St. Stephen’s rules.
  • Maintain open dialogue with camp directors, fellow instructors, camp counselors and teaching assistants.
  • Evaluate students’ progress. Notify directors of any individual concerns.
  • When dealing with an accompanist/assistant, maintain an open dialogue regarding your class needs.
Criteria for Selection
  • B.A./B.F.A. or higher (or equivalent technical training andexperience) in the field to be taught.
  • Experience with children.

Title: Accompanist
Job Location: St. Stephen’s Episcopal School
Hours of Work: varies, dependent upon number of classes or projects, may include outside preparation (arrangements, etc.)

Job Duties
  • Arrive at each class/performance on time and prepared.
  • Be aware of instructors’ plans for each class.
  • Maintain an open dialogue with your instructor regarding his/her needs.
  • Criteria for Selection
  • B.A./B.F.A. or higher (or equivalent training) in piano performance/accompanying.
  • Large knowledge of musical theatre.
  • Prefer experience with children.

Residential Staff

Job Description

Counselors report to Residential Director and Camp Directors. Counselors are our front line and direct link to the campers. Counselors are directly responsible for the supervision of their assigned campers, and are to participate in the daily camp activities. Counselors generally take on internship roles as well.

Description for Resident Counselors

Counselors provide direct supervision to student campers who are enrolled in the Texas Arts Project Summer Camp program. All Counselors play a vital role in developing a positive, safe, and enriching camp experience for every camper.

Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent and at least one year of college completed.
  • Must be in good physical condition.
  • Should have experience working with ages 9-18.
  • Should have the ability to control ages 9-18 without physical contact or force.
  • Ability to relate to one's peer group
  • Ability to accept supervision and guidance
  • Ability to assist in teaching and leading activities
  • Good character, integrity, and adaptability
  • Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control 
Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning and conducting camping programs that have been developed by the Residential Director.
  • Prepare campus for check-in and assist with check-in
  • Keep the campers under constant supervision.
  • Be responsible for the care, upkeep, and storage of all camp equipment.
  • Assist in teaching or leading activities, as assigned.
  • Complete jobs requested by the Residential Director and Camp Directors.
  • Assist with checking campers out of their dorms
  • Assist with the strike the Sunday following camp

These statements on duties are not to be taken as the final and only work to be done by staff members. Frequently it is necessary for individual staff members to cooperate on a project, which is important for the continued smooth operation of the camp. Such duties will be under the direction of the Residential and Artistic Directors.

Qualifications

Office Assistant
  • Maintain camper records; Create the showcase programs; Type the showcase script
  • Take notes during staff and camper meetings; Create camper schedules; assist Camp Directors with all administrative duties.
Teacher Assistant
  • Assist teachers during classes, rehearsals, and production
  • Lead warm-ups
  • Coach individuals on monologues and songs
  • Monitor campers as they work on individual projects or assignments.
Production Assistant
  • Assist Production Manager, Stage Manager, Technical Director and Artistic Director
  • Coordinate rehearsals for all majors
  • Create and upkeep of rehearsal reports
  • Act as leader during crew hours.
Marketing and PR Assistant
  • Edit film into a camper DVD and promotional DVD
  • Upload photos to website during camp
  • Send press releases for showcases
  • Create camper surveys
  • Update media lists
  • Create new and unique forms of marketing and PR for TAP camp.
Counselor-in-Training
  • CIT's are the only intern positions that are part of the residential staff. CIT's assist the counselors and directly report to the residential director. They may be required to handle any of the duties listed under interns and are also responsible for the following:
  • Assist counselors with activity preparation
  • Assist with special events including evening and week-end activities
  • Actively participate and exhibit leadership during day, evening and weekend activities
