Advanced Camp
June 8-July 5 (by audition only) $2850
Special Weeklong Camp June 8-14 (by invitation only) $550
FACULTY
Advanced Camp is an extention of Senior Camp for ages 15 and up. Campers who register for Senior Camp may send in a video audition for acceptance into the Advanced Camp. This is not a program for the sometime performer, but rather for young people who are interested in continuing their performing arts education at the collegiate level.
College acting and musical theatre programs are becoming increasingly competitive for acceptance and the staff at TAP are uniquely prepared to help young people to get into a program that will satisfy their needs and ambitions.
Through a stringent combination of group classes, workshops and private lessons, this select group will hone their talents and create a portfolio of songs or monologues for their college auditions. Advanced Campers begin TAP Senior with a one-week college prep intensive and then focus on performance during the three weeks of TAP Senior.
The following will be covered through group classes, workshops and private lessons.
Choosing the right college
It is often difficult to know where to start when you are thinking about college programs. They all offer different degrees and specialize in different areas. Mr. Valdes will guide these students through a process to choose the right type of college and, in turn, create a list of colleges to apply to.
The Art of College Auditions
Auditioning for college is different from auditioning for professional work. Colleges are looking for students who are ready to train for four years, students they feel they can mold over time. There is an art to these auditions that Mr. Valdes has spend 15 years sharing with his students.
Monologue & Song Preparation
This section will consist of practical coaching sessions aimed at giving the individual student the means to achieve two presentable audition monologues and two contrasting audition songs.
Dance Preparation
Students will take classes in preparation for college auditions. Vocabulary and technique for ballet, jazz and tap are the focus with some emphasis on skills required to quickly learn Broadway routines.
Mock Auditions
TAPadvanced concludes with a showing of each camper's audition material (monologues and/or songs). College Recruiters and Professors as well as Professional Directors, Producers and Agents may be asked to watch and critique. Each camper will leave with verbal and written evaluations of their work from guest artists, a DVD of their final showings and a headshot and resume.
THE AUDITION PROCESS
All TAPadvanced applicants must mail in a headshot and resume and video audition by May 15, 2008. Please include your vocal type and range along with a list of your current audition songs and monolgues.
VIDEO REQUIREMENTS
must be submitted on DVD or VHS with Camper First and Last Name attached to the tape
Acting Majors
Present two contrasting monologues, each approximately two minutes in length. Your first piece should be a character from a play. The character should be an appropriate age range, but can be a stretch for you. We are looking for evidence of a true understanding of both the character and full context of the monologue. Your second piece can be from any source of literature that you are closely connected to and passionate about including poetry, prose, a play, a screenplay, etc. We are looking for naturalness and honesty. Please, no costumes or clips from previous performances.
Musical Theatre Majors
Present two contrasting songs from musical theatre repertoire and one monologue from any source of literature. Be sure one song is up-tempo and the other is a ballad. Additionally, one must have been written before 1950, and the other after 1950. Songs must be performed with a piano accompanist or an accompaniment tape. No a capella. The monologue may be from any source of literature that you are closely connected to and passionate about, including, but not limited to, poetry, prose, plays and screenplays. We are looking for natural and honest performers. Please, no costume and no clips from previous performances.
